eBay Announces First NFT Collection in Collaboration with OneOf, a Green Web3 Company

The worldwide e-commerce giant eBay and a leading green NFT platform for communities across sports, leisure, and music announced the launch of a series of one-of-a-kind NFT collectibles through a strategic collaboration. 

With this cooperation, eBay combines its global reach and unequaled inventory with OneOf’s eco-friendly Web3 technology to provide a seamless experience that allows fans to securely buy and trade high-passion and high-value items.

“NFTs and blockchain technology are transforming the collectibles industry and are increasingly recognized as an investment option for fans,” said Dawn Block, eBay’s vice president of collectibles, electronics, and home. ” OneOf and eBay have teamed together to make valuable NFTs more approachable to a new breed of collectors worldwide. The first of eBay’s “Genesis” NFT Collection will feature animated, and 3D interpretations of the iconic athletes featured on Sports Illustrated covers over the years. The first illustration features record-breaking Canadian hockey legend, Wayne Gretzky.

“Being on the cover of Sports Illustrated forty years ago was a tremendous milestone in my life,” Wayne Gretzky, Sportsman of the Year, says. “It’s an honor to be able to provide this collectible experience to my longtime hockey fans.”

Each $10 NFT has a three-dimensional picture or animation of Gretzky making a famous ice move. There are thirteen limited-edition digital collectibles in each of the four tiers, with issues varying from 299 in the green tier to a highly desirable 15 in the diamond tier.

Several iterations of OneOf’s sports legends NFT series, created in collaboration with eBay, will be released throughout 2022, reinterpreting iconic Sports Illustrated covers for the Web3.

eBay, a long-time leader in the collectibles industry, continues to innovate and gain collector trust. eBay launched industry-leading services, including Price Guide and Collection, as well as Image Scan, in 2021. 

The following year, eBay expanded its Authenticity Guarantee Service by adding trading cards to it. Aside from that, eBay is about to unveil the eBay vault, a safe storage center, and an e-marketplace for trading cards. This will encourage fractionalization by allowing users to transfer ownership from seller to buyer in seconds without having to re-authenticate or ship the item anywhere.
