Ola’s CEO Reveals Unique Features of Krutrim AI Chatbot Ahead of Its Launch

Ola, the renowned Indian ride-hailing giant, is set to make waves in the world of artificial intelligence with the impending launch of its Krutrim AI chatbot. This innovative chatbot is designed to cater to a wide audience in India, boasting the ability to comprehend all 22 scheduled languages of the country and generate content in eight Indian languages.
Founder and CEO of Krutrim Si Designs, Bhavish Aggarwal, recently took to social media to unveil the launch timeline for this groundbreaking AI product. On February 4th, Aggarwal shared a glimpse of the Krutrim app’s capabilities on X (formerly known as Twitter), stating, “Testing the @Krutrim app before release! Releasing next week. Looking good though we will keep improving the models post launch too.”

According to the company, Krutrim AI has developed a family of Large Language Models (LLMs), which includes Krutrim base and Krutrim Pro. The latter is positioned as a multimodal foundational model. These models have undergone extensive training, processing over two trillion Indic language tokens.
The shared image by Bhavish Aggarwal provides a tantalizing sneak peek into the Krutrim AI chatbot’s user interface. At the top, users are presented with a variety of suggestions, ranging from creating love song playlists to finding popular snacks and even receiving recommendations for purchasing laptops. Below these suggestions, a chatbox awaits user input, offering the promise of personalized responses.
The versatility and potential applications of the Krutrim AI chatbot are expected to become even more apparent once the app is officially released and undergoes public testing. Users can anticipate assistance in diverse tasks, including discovering new destinations, obtaining information on various topics, and much more.
While the Krutrim AI chatbot holds significant promise, Bhavish Aggarwal took a prudent step to manage user expectations. A disclaimer featured in the shared image wisely cautions users, stating, “Krutrim can go wrong sometimes. Consider verifying important information.” This acknowledgement of the AI’s fallibility underscores the importance of independent verification for critical details.
Ola’s venture into the AI-driven chatbot arena aligns with industry trends, where companies harness artificial intelligence to enhance user experiences, streamline services, and offer personalized assistance. The Krutrim AI chatbot is poised to join the ranks of digital assistants aiming to simplify various aspects of users’ lives.
The promise of the Krutrim AI chatbot is rooted in its extensive training. Krutrim AI has meticulously developed two Large Language Models, namely Krutrim base and Krutrim Pro. These models are the result of training on an astonishing two trillion Indic language tokens, cementing their capability to understand and communicate in multiple languages effectively.
Furthermore, Krutrim Si Designs has also claimed expertise in manufacturing chips optimized for AI computation, showcasing a comprehensive approach to harnessing artificial intelligence.
Bhavish Aggarwal’s social media posts on February 4th shed light on the Krutrim AI chatbot’s capabilities. The chatbot’s ability to answer basic queries and provide suggestions was demonstrated, garnering significant attention. However, one particular response to a question about India’s pre-independence status raised eyebrows.
When asked whether India was a country before independence, the chatbot responded affirmatively, stating, “Yes, India was a country before the British Raj. It had its own political system, culture, language, religion, and tradition.” Bhavish Aggarwal, captioning this response with “This is why we need to build India’s own AI,” highlighted the potential of homegrown AI.

Interestingly, OpenAI’s ChatGPT provided a different response, stating, “Before the establishment of the British Raj, the region that is now known as India was not a single unified country in the modern sense but a collection of various kingdoms, empires, and principalities.” This discrepancy sparked discussions among users, some of whom attributed it to AI hallucination, a phenomenon where large language models may generate false or non-existent information.
In addition to these revelations, Krutrim Si Designs has also shared benchmark scores for its AI models. These scores were compared to the Meta Llama 2 7B model, which boasts training on over 500 billion tokens and serves as a coding assistant. Krutrim’s models outperformed Llama 2 7B on several benchmarks, including Arc, Hellaswag, Copa, Jeopardy, Piqa, and others. However, it exhibited lower performance on MMLU, Bigbench, and Lambada open benchmarks.
As the countdown to the official launch of the Krutrim AI chatbot continues, excitement and curiosity are building among users. Ola’s foray into the realm of artificial intelligence promises to reshape how users interact with technology, offering a versatile and multi-lingual companion capable of simplifying various aspects of daily life.
The imminent arrival of Ola’s Krutrim AI chatbot holds great promise, backed by extensive training, versatility, and the ability to communicate in multiple Indian languages. However, the AI’s potential limitations and the intriguing response to historical queries have sparked discussions and further heightened anticipation. As Ola prepares to introduce this innovative chatbot, users eagerly await the opportunity to experience its capabilities firsthand and witness the impact of this cutting-edge technology on their lives.
