TCS to Train Its Staff With Latest Generative AI Skills

With over 5 lakh software engineers, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global IT consulting company, is embarking on a significant initiative to equip its vast workforce with cutting-edge skills in Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI).
Gen AI, as described by Siva Ganesan, the head of TCS’s ‘AI.Cloud’ unit, is still in its infancy as a business opportunity. Currently, the landscape features relatively modest use cases for Gen AI. However, TCS is actively engaged in 250 generative AI projects, utilizing the knowledge acquired to expedite its client-focused endeavors.

TCS has made a resolute commitment to prepare its workforce for the impending AI revolution. Harrick Vin, the Chief Technology Officer of TCS, exuded confidence in cultivating one of the world’s most extensive AI-ready workforces, given the remarkable progress in training over 1.50 lakh employees in Gen AI skillsets within a mere seven months.
In an endeavor to foster practical proficiency in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI (GenAI), TCS has introduced an AI Experience Zone. This immersive setting provides TCS employees with the opportunity to experiment with state-of-the-art GenAI-driven applications, stimulating innovation and problem-solving. The AI Experience Zone also encourages collaborative efforts among associates globally, enabling them to collectively tackle specific challenges, participate in hackathons and contests, and apply their GenAI expertise in practical scenarios..
TCS’s forays into AI have not gone unnoticed. Forrester, a global market research firm, recognized TCS as a significant provider of AI services among Fortune 500 enterprises in its latest report titled ‘The AI Services Landscape Q1 2024’. This accolade underscores TCS’s unwavering commitment to enhancing its AI capabilities. Everest, another prominent global research firm, acknowledged TCS as a leader in its ‘PEAK Matrix assessment 2023’, which assessed 26 top global service providers. These recognitions underscore TCS’s dedication to fortifying its capabilities in the AI domain.
TCS is strategically leveraging its innovation hubs and forging partnerships with industry giants such as Nvidia and Anthropic to bolster its AI offerings. With 24 Centers of Excellence (CoE) and 14 innovation labs situated across the globe, TCS is continuously developing accelerators, frameworks, and assets encompassing the entire AI adoption lifecycle.
Dr. Harrick Vin, Chief Technology Officer at TCS, emphasized, “As we navigate the digital landscape, TCS remains steadfast in its commitment to becoming AI-first. Embracing Gen AI as a pivotal component of our strategy, we are not only transforming our operational approach but also redefining our leadership and innovation in a rapidly evolving world. By harnessing the potential of GenAI across our operations, we aim to set new benchmarks in innovation, efficiency, and client success, propelling us into the future.”
TCS is poised to take a central role in discussions regarding the future of AI at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The company is partnering with renowned technology institutions such as Carnegie Mellon University, MIT Connection Science, and MIT Computer Science & AI Lab to convene a distinguished assembly of change-makers, innovators, and business leaders. Together, they will engage in discussions about future innovations and breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence.
