Heroic Story, a web3 gaming protocol, raised 6 million dollars in funding led by Upfront Ventures. Polygon Technology and Multicoin Capital also participated in this fundraising round. Heroic Story has planned to use these funds to market the live beta, hire talent, and develop on-chain technology for an RPG world. RPG is a role-playing game, and the organization is developing a massively multiplayer game that will allow several users to play together, just like previous web2 games like Fortnite. With this investment, Heroic Story has total financing of $7.4 million.
Several other strategic angels also participated in the fundraising event, including a16z Games Fund founder Jonathon Lai and Steve Arhancet, CEO of Team Liquid. Richard Ma, CEO of Quantstamp, and Miramax’s head of film Wolfgang Hammer were also in the fundraiser.
Mark Suster, the managing partner at Upfront Ventures, said, “We fell in love with the vision of Heroic Story because they are building authentic online RPG experiences for large Global audiences passionate about the tabletop RPG genre.”
Heroic Story’s previous investors include Transcend Fund, Kevin Lin, Co-founder of Twitch, Holly Liu, co-founder Kabam, and Furqan Rydhan, CEO of the Third web. It was founded in 2019 and offered impressive multiplayer versions of some popular tabletop role-playing games with a subtle combination of immersive experience technology and storytelling.
Jay Rosenkrantz, CEO of Heroic Story, said, “the intersection of storytelling and Technology has been the theme of my career, from my early years as a top online poker pro and entrepreneur to designing and directing one of the first adventure games for consumer VR.”
Legends of Fortunate was the company’s first franchise, which was released in 2021. It offers an immersive in-game experience that “eliminates the pain points of playing traditional tabletop games online with lowest price scheduling and an exciting virtual reward system designed to broaden the reach and the field of PTR PG to new audiences.”
